Clue 8: Learn to Glorify the Creative Process

Clue 8: Learn to Glorify the Creative Process

The Aniboxx team is a very creative and nurturing bunch, and compare the development of video marketing content to a broody hen keeping her eggs warm. We believe that creativity is a process that requires open-minded conditions for the generation of great ideas. This article will break down the stages of Aniboxx’s creative process and explain the ‘video – hatching process’.

Stage 1 – Fertilisation on the client brief; developing a few video concepts

With these we are just trying to pin down a visual style and determine what the final product might look like. This is heavily based on what the client is looking for and we are very atmospheric; we like to create a distinctive mood. We design environments and characters at this point. When the client is happy with the video concepts, the script is written and refined with input from the client. Once finalised a voiceover of the narration or script is recorded.

Stage2 – Creating a visual interpretation of the script; the storyboard

We design an interesting way for the video to convey the key messages as written in the approved script. Any additional environments and characters are also drawn up with the storyboard, in a rough manner. Storyboards are often quick and rough, so that changes can be made quickly and easily without throwing away the ‘hen brooding’ efforts. Emphasis is on composition at this stage, which is the arrangement of the visual elements.

Stage 3 – Breathing life into the storyboard; the animatic

The animatic uses the rough images from the storyboards and puts them in a video, with the voice over and the music in place. This provides a base for the timing of the animation.

This is preceded by the asset creation, which involves all the assets sketched up in the storyboard being drawn out fully. Only after all this does animation begin. Following this the client will be supplied with an initial version, which will be subject for review.

Stage 4 – Fully rendered, hatched and ready to promote; completed animation

Once the animation is done, we put everything in place, which is called comping. Here we also add any special effects, camera movies and shakes, place in the voice over, sound effects and music. And hey presto! The fully rendered video is done. The client may have some amends after this, which will be taken into account, but for the most part the video-hatching process is done and we are a ready to get off our behinds and pass you your hatched video.
